I am addicted. Addicted to travel, but more importantly, traveling with Lexi. Being able to take her places that are different from our comfort zone of home, seeing her grow through that and develop, talk about countries I could have only dreamed of visiting when I was her age. It’s pretty darn cool.

This last year has been incredibly intense from the travel standpoint. When I look back and count the number of trips we have taken, I can’t believe it all fit into on year. We have been to Mexico (twice) and Costa Rica, on a Princess cruise to St Martin and St Thomas and to California. I personally ( alone) traveled to Hawaii, Sierra Mountains, Las Vegas, Puerto Rico. And many many local trips around Florida. There has been so much that it would be difficult to post it all on the blog. So I am relying on the power of social media to walk you through our adventures, as well as the photos that are supposed to be worth a thousand words.

This is a story… A story of how every person needs to escape sometimes. And how a group of bloggers, including myself, got a chance to do exactly that.

I will start the story with introductions. Some of you might be familiar with The MOMS network, and two power women behind it, Denise and Melissa. So these two ladies got a brilliant idea of putting together a group of blogger and together with AM Resorts going on a girls only ( except for our videographer Rafi) escape. A true Mom’s Escape.

Our travel comfort items and a baby monitor giveaway

Hola, amigos!

Posting here from sporadically sunny Mexico to offer you an insight on our travel must-haves in conjunction with a Levana monitor giveaway.

As I was sitting on the balcony of my room in Generations Resort in Riviera Maya, working away on my computer and periodically glancing at the monitor where Lexi was quietly sleeping, I realized that I  had never traveled without taking my monitor with me. It was an interesting realization because something like packing a monitor has been on an autopilot for so long, I didn’t truly understand I was doing that. Yet here I was with my daughter who is almost four in a one room suite still using a baby monitor.

I looked around the room trying to figure out what other items I still bring with us whenever we travel and it turns out there are a few staples that have been traveling with us for years.

I guess since I mentioned the ABC, I will post some pictures of how Lexi enjoyed it. The show showcases kid products and is not open to public but often attendees bring their children to the show who have lots of fun going from booth to booth trying out toys.

My Daily Mom editor Megan joined me on this trip with her son Will as well.

Last year in Vegas around this time….

So this time of the year is coming by and as usual I am reflecting on two unchanging things: our annual trip to Disney and my now annual trip to ABC Expo in Vegas.

This time, however, I am trying to decide whether to go alone or to take Lexi with me. I cannot believe that we have come to a point where I can actually leave for several days to do work without the whole world collapsing. At times it felt like we would never get there. Just like when I was beginning to breastfeed, it felt like it will always be this painful. Or when Lexi would wake up for the umpteenth time a night, it would feel like I would never get to sleep. And yet here we are, life goes on, children grow and change, get to the point where they don’t need to be with mommy all the time.

Not even sure why I am getting all semi-philosophical here. It is just interesting looking back and knowing that last year there would be no way in hell Lexi would be ok without me even for a night. And now I am trying to decide if it’s worth it buying two extra plane tickets and having them come with me. What a difference a year makes.

Flying with a toddler

It’s funny because I remember preparing for our first flight last year. I was (almost) terrified. 5 hours in one seat! Lexi had NEVER been able to sit still. Long car trips could be a nightmare, but at least you can stop. I had no idea what to expect.  I was hoping she’d sleep, but that usually lasts an hour. We could read books for an hour. Then maybe iPad/iPhone for an hour. But then what on earth could you do in an airplane cabin for another 2 hours?

In reality, it’s really not that big of a deal.

Legoland Trip for Christmas

Before time gets away from me, I wanted to write a bit about how we spent Christmas last year. We had planned to get away somewhere cold and snowy for the first time, but after our West Coast Travels in October and the overwhelming amount of work for the holidays, we just couldn’t fathom planning another trip. So staying close to home is what we decided to do. We visited ICE exhibit ( later on that) and went to Legoland Florida on Christmas Day. I couldn’t believe how not busy it was, considering Disney is packed during those times, so it was a nice change for us. This was our first visit to Legoland  and I honestly didn’t see how it would be good for a almost three year old who doesn’t know what Lego is.

To my surprise, it had more attractions for her age/height than the other parks we frequent. My husband, of course, LOOOOVED everything about Legoland. It was like being a kid for him again and he thought that he should definitely come back, which we will later on this year.

Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party

It was our first time at Mickey’s Halloween Party with Lexi. The one and only time we had been to one was with our friends years before we had Lexi and it was an interesting expereince. This time we were excited to see how different it would be now that we are parents.

It was certainly different. :)

First of all, the 7 pm start time was suddenly a challenge, especially on those days without a nap. We did all we could to get Lexi to nap but she was just WAY to excited to be in Orlando to relax. So she stayed up full of energy until we were all dressed and got into the Disney bus. We made quite a spectacle while walking through the lobby to get to the Disney bus stop. People were stopping to look at us, children were running up. One family “chased” us all the way to the bus station and shyly asked if their toddler could say hi to me because she was convinced I was Anna.

It was actually kind of nice to “pretend” to be a princess for someone. She was absolutely smitten.  It was so sweet.
