My Priceless Camp Experiences + Camp for Boys

When I was a little 10 year old growing up in Russia, the highlight of my summer was the summer camp my parents sent me to that year. Most kids would be gone for the summer at their grandparents’ summer homes or out to the country, and those kids who stayed in the city were left to either be bored indoors, or spending the hot days in the front yards playing with whoever was left in the city at that point. I remember spending weeks studying in the summer. Because I liked it, I loved reading books and I loved learning.
I also remember visiting my nephew’s kindergarten class and asking the teachers to allow me to be their TA and to play with the kids.

9 reasons to book a Disney Dream cruise

Disney Dream cruise

It’s no secret I love cruises. I don’t really know of a person who has cruised on a good ship and did not fall in love with this mode of travel.

Aside from the fact that it’s an all inclusive vacation, your stateroom moves from one destination to another. I have traveled a lot in the last few years. Half of that travel was with Lexi, so I am no stranger to traveling with a kid. When it comes to cruises, I am less experienced, but I have been on enough cruises to know what I am doing and to be able to compare those experiences.

Let’s go camping in Florida and a $50 camping card giveaway

Note: Kohl’s has provided us with a $50 gift card for the giveaway and the products listed above.

The Backstory

With spring approaching and Lexi getting older, I have been thinking a lot about taking her camping. She keeps seeing camping references in books she reads and shows she watches and has become pretty interested in it. While we were in Chattanooga on a press trip ( post coming up), she bought a little lantern at Ruby Falls and has been inseparable with it, talking about camping with her lantern. Now my experience with camping equals to zero. I grew up in a city and during my adult life never had anyone who was even remotely interested in going camping (and who wants to go alone?). So I always wished I could camp, but never had the opportunity to make it happen. Andrew always said “ugh, bugs mosquitoes, why???”.

Despite all that, I have planned out all the camping spots I wanted to go to years ago and have had that on my to do list periodically looking it over.

Obviously when Lexi was little, going on my own first camping trip was out of the question. Now that she is 4 and is herself interested in it, it would be a shame not to get it going. Two females against one male. We know who wins there. So we started shopping on Kohl’s for their camping sale event.

BIG ANNOUNCEMENT!

Some of you, who follow me on social media, might have noticed that for the last 6 months I have been working on a few projects. I am ready to officially announce the first one.

Together with a friend of mine, I started a new business, Melody Lane, a clothing store that is focused on making sure that women in all stages of their lives have access to comfortable, affordable and most importantly versatile clothing. (see below on details of a $500 giveaway!)

Pregnancy, motherhood, nursing, party, fitness, vacation, career, school – it’s amazing how many stages we go through as women that require a completely different wardrobe. So our goal is to offer clothing with versatility and affordability in mind. Items you could wear for several occasions and during several stages of your life. Clothing that is comfortable, yet still looks good, because I have to admit that since becoming a mother, comfort trumps looks, however I still want to look good.

Budding poser and a little weekend getaway

Last week we took a quick trip back to Palm Beach Marriott Singer Island Resort (you can read about our first trip here). Our first trip to the resort was rainy, but still fun. This time we were unlucky with the weather again. Aside from the rain, we got a cold front. While that might have stopped us from enjoying the beach and the pool, it allowed us some time to explore more of the area around the resort.

OUR VIEW:

LEXI WOULDN’T JOIN ME IN THE TUB, SO WE WENT TO THE GYM INSTEAD. AT 10 PM.

Since the resort has a full kitchen, I stocked up on food at Whole Foods and the next day we had croissant sandwiches and a salad.

We took a nice drive to the local Science Museum where they had a Dinosaur exhibit. Lexi loved being at the science museum and exploring concepts that she is so interested in right now: space, lightning, extreme weather. Her favorites were the plasma ball ( I got a lot of lightning questions), nano particles table, the hurricane force wind booth and the astronaut suit. untitled--4 untitled--5

The next day I researched unique playgrounds in the area and despite the rain drove 30 minutes out of our way to see it. The playground was epic but empty which resulted in a “I have no one to play with here” breakdown. The girl likes making friends. She finally found one local boy who was about a year younger and was happily following him around trying to engage him in play. I would love to return to the playground during better weather and have her really experience all the features.

While we were getting ready, Lexi asked to pose with her speaker and had me take some pictures with my mirrorless camera.

Legoland Trip for Christmas

Before time gets away from me, I wanted to write a bit about how we spent Christmas last year. We had planned to get away somewhere cold and snowy for the first time, but after our West Coast Travels in October and the overwhelming amount of work for the holidays, we just couldn’t fathom planning another trip. So staying close to home is what we decided to do. We visited ICE exhibit ( later on that) and went to Legoland Florida on Christmas Day. I couldn’t believe how not busy it was, considering Disney is packed during those times, so it was a nice change for us. This was our first visit to Legoland  and I honestly didn’t see how it would be good for a almost three year old who doesn’t know what Lego is.

To my surprise, it had more attractions for her age/height than the other parks we frequent. My husband, of course, LOOOOVED everything about Legoland. It was like being a kid for him again and he thought that he should definitely come back, which we will later on this year.

Bok Tower and Gardens Trip

This is what I call a Photo Post.

I put these together when inspiration strikes, when I feel like I need a little bit more beauty in the moment, when I want reminisce, when I am down, when I am lazy and don’t want to write a long post, when it’s late and that’s all I have the energy for, when it’s something I’ve been meaning to share for a while. There are many reasons for me to work on a post that lacks words and instead appeals to the visual person in me.

This photo post is from the time when Lexi just turned 2. It was shortly after her birthday that we decided to take a trip to one of the most beautiful places I’ve been to, Bok Tower and Gardens in Central Florida. It’s a truly unique place in Florida and I’ve always wanted to bring Lexi back here, the place where her dad and I took our anniversary photos shortly before we decided to get pregnant.

Brian and Kristy came with us, so it was extra special to have both Lexitwins in this place. The photos really speak for themselves, but I will add a few comments here and there under some of the photos.

South Seas Getaway Day 3: A tour around the resort and Pool time

#justescape was the hashtag of our South Seas, Captiva trip and I can certainly say that is what we did.

We just escaped.

Looking at the photos, it is almost as if I have temporary amnesia from our stay there. I don’t even remember and can’t imagine being in that beauty.

I guess it’s normal because I feel that way every time I step onto the beaches here in Florida. But one thing I do know is how much I wish I could be there again. Taking photos, enjoying the sunshine, the food, the view. Not a care in the world.
