Baby’s First Year: Expectations vs. Reality

We’ve all been there.

Daydreaming about what life with a baby would be like, without truly knowing what to expect. Thinking we “know” how things will turn out, but in the back of our minds knowing that it will be different. Now that Lexi is 1 YEAR OLD, i can look back at the year of babyhood and see things for what they were.

I don’t think Andrew and I were off base when imagining what life with a baby would be like. I think it’s that we couldn’t FEEL that difference until said baby came along.

All the negative “just you waits” from bitter moms were met with an eye roll. All the good-hearted ones were a drop in a bucket of the attempt to imagine our life with the baby.

I don’t think you can know what it is going to be like. No matter how hard you try. I think you can picture it, but you cannot FEEL it. So here’s what WE thought life with a baby would be like. And here is how we were wrong (or right).

Keep in mind that our experience will most likely NOT be yours. Your baby might sleep 16 hours a day and be the newborn you read in all the books about, nurse like a champ from day 1, fall asleep in your sling or contently stare at the mobile while you go around your business. That was not our experience. Nor was it the experience of millions of other parents. Because every baby is UNIQUE!

LABOR & BIRTH

Expectations:

I had hoped that Hypnobabies would help me get through labor but I was prepared for it to go whatever way it would, since I had read/heard how unpredictable it is.

Reality:

Butterflies in my belly!

Daily Mom is live!

We did it!

To see the last 6 months of hard of work of the most amazing team of women, go to DailyMom.com

It’s a new website, so I am sure there will be bugs, and you can expect a lot more content to be added daily. But it’s a start!

We’d all appreciate any help we can get by having you share this website with your friends and over social media networks.

Thank you everyone who has been supportive in this!

P.S. On a TAOMAB note, I finally got my laptop back and the normal posting will resume on here next week. I will be spending the weekend catching up on some posts I’ve been dying to write.

I am so happy right now! Love you all!

I am so excited!

The time has come for you guys to learn about what it is I have been working on so hard for the last 6 months. FEBRUARY 28th!

DAILY MOM

I’ve mentioned this name in passing a few times, but I doubt many of you noticed or paid attention. However it is now a huge part of my life that I am incredibly excited about. It took a lot of work and it’s almost here and you, guys, get to be the first ones to see it. A new portal that will hopefully stand out in the sea of mommy-oriented websites. I first came upon the idea for the website when I was sick of wading through hundreds of useless posts that sucked me in and wasted my time on big corporate website ( you know the ones I am talking about, those with scandalous news and celebrity gossip).  One post that has the potential of helping me as a mom and a woman among 10 posts of useless (but admittedly entertaining content). I wondered if there was a place for a website that doesn’t try to entertain, but tries to help. I instantly thought of Pinterest and how awesome of a service that is. My next thought was “I wish there was a blog like Pinterest, where all that awesomeness was delivered to me daily in a blog format into my email or RSS feed.”

DING DING DING

(that was the lightbulb over my head) Now over a year later after the initial idea and 6 months of grueling work along with my kick ass team of moms, Daily Mom is here.

So what is Daily Mom?

This is how we define it!

Round Heads and Healthy Babies

Are you dying to see what Lexi’s birthday party looked like? How adorable she was? And how her first taste of sugar via smash cake was?  I am absolutely dying to share, so it’s killing me not being able to. Fingers crossed my laptop should be back Wednesday/Thursday and I can post by the end of the week.

In the meantime…

A few days ago I got a newsletter in my inbox about a new product that I thought I’d share with you since I can’t write about much else at the moment while I wait on my laptop.

Red Love Day {got rained out}

Written by Elena @The Art of Making a Baby. Posted in Alexis, photo

We had beautiful plans for Valentine’s Day/Our Anniversary. Picture a dreamy picnic on the beach, wearing all white with red 5 inch heels, wind blowing, sun warming up the sand, Lexi running around with her white dress, red bow and red shoes, trying to run into water and squealing from delight…

I feel like I need to update you guys on what’s going on and why I am sort of MIA.

Alexis’ first birthday was an awesome celebration and I cannot wait to post gazillion pictures of it.

Baby Signs

Written by Elena @The Art of Making a Baby. Posted in Alexis, New Mom Experience

I wanted to write a quick post ( as quick as this type of posts can be) about BABY SIGNS.

I was first introduced to the concept by some TTC books I was reading before we got pregnant and then saw a real life example in my friend’s daughter who was a little over a year at the time and using signs freely.

I always thought it was a good idea and was very excited about it, but I didn’t realize how truly awesome teaching your baby sign language can be until Alexis signed her first signs.

I am sure by now everyone has heard of BABY SIGN LANGUAGE, a system that allows your baby to become an effective communicator well before they are actually capable of using real words. This is made possible by the fact that their language center is developed pretty well before they can make their mouth pronounce words. Your baby understands everything, he just can’t say it. Many kids, in fact, invent their own sign language. Signs for hi and bye, yes and no are nothing more than sign language.
