Morning Walks

{this post is a part of the effort to catch up on photo posts since Alexis’ birth}

From early one we tried to make it a habit to go for morning and evening walks every day. A part of it was because fresh air is less polluted than indoor air and it’s good for babies, a part is because we just NEEDED to get out of the house and with Alexis not falling asleep in the carseat, it just wasn’t possible to go anywhere but just outside our home. So finally at about 2.5 months, I was able to put Alexis into a carrier ( Ergo back then) without too much complaining and we went off on a walk.

The poor girl was, of course, too hot in that down-comforter of a infant insert and after some crying and quick bouncy walking on my part, she fell asleep (whew!). Mind you that was the first and ONLY time she’s ever fallen asleep in a carrier. lol

My favorite part about these walks are the morning and evening sun that create this magical light for photography. I really stopped taking a camera with us when we go for walks, because there’s only so much you can photograph in one place, but I always wish I could share beautiful moments and landscapes on the blog more.

Around 3 months, Alexis started tolerating a stroller for short periods of time and it became even more fun walking with her because she loved looking around. Whenever we’d pass under a tree, she’d start kicking and smiling, it was really adorable to watch her brain developing and seeing something new.

{don’t mind the goofy oversized hat. That was the only one we had at the time}

We still continued using the carrier, and were getting good at it. I learned to breastfeed in it and it made walks easier, where we didn’t have to rush home knowing she’ll need to eat soon.

We continue walking once or twice a day or more on overcast days, sometimes on our own, sometimes with other mommies and their babies and Alexis does her happy dance whenever she sees the stroller or the carrier being pulled out.

    so cute! I love these pictures! It is so fun to see Alexis so small! Was breastfeeding while walking challenging? I don’t know why, but I envision it to be challenging, like I need to concentrate while baby eats… or something! haha

    Alexis is so adorable. She really has changed a lot in just a few short months! I just have to ask, why do you post so many of the same pictures? You live in such a gorgeous neighborhood, and yet there are probably 15 pictures of just you walking. Not that you aren’t lovely, because you know you are. But I for one would love to see what you girls see when you are out and about! Just a thought.

    How do you feed in the ergobaby? I have one myself and cannot figure out how to do it!
    Do you like drop a shoulder strap or something?

    Thanks!

      Yes. Loosen both shoulder straps a lot and then the baby can lean forward and nurse. I love nursing in my ergo!

    First time commenter.. Just found your blog as a follower on IG. I really love all your pics. Reminds me that I need to take more pics of my kiddos. I did take lots of pics of my daughter during her first year, but remembering to bust out the canon with my almost 3 month old is a little harder nowadays. Also, my daughter was a nice sized baby like your Lexi (her name is Alexa 😉 My son is on the average end of the spectrum so it’s nice to see a difference between the two. He is only BF as well. Wanted to thank you for insight on the BLW.. I am inspired and going to look into that when he is ready. I made all of Alexa’s purees using all fresh organic food when she was weaning, I really dislike any sort of premade baby food. I’m very curious to try BLW but I will also introduce purees I’m sure.
    I have a couple of questions/comments, and please do not take offense, as this is just my observation and I believe in to each their own/whatever works:
    – I’m happy that you have finally been able to go on outings with Lexi, but may I ask why you waited so long? I’ve read your posts about the carseat situation and so forth. I just cannot fathom not being able to do that for months. I’m glad you found your walks helpful. My daughter is just about 2.5 yrs and it is just not possible to NOT go on outings at least twice a week. We’ve been going out since my son was about 2-3 weeks old. Dylan is a Mommy’s boy, so he comes along wherever we go. It isn’t easy sometimes, but it must be done. My girl needs to be out, so I have to rough it sometimes, but we make it work. We’ve been able to go to the movies, the mall, museums, restaurants, etc. it can be done without meltdowns and freak outs. Hope you are able to get out more and let her explore the world soon.
    – why do you refer to your large breasts as pornstar/hoochie mama-ish? I have large breasts (much larger than yours bc of BF) and I am a far cry from a porn star lol i think they are lovely. For someone who gives advice on beauty, maybe you should try to embrace your assets, since they are valuable assets for Lexi. Just a thought.. You do post lots of BF pics so you are not ashamed of what you have. Just try to be less demeaning. Makes us big booby girls feel self conscious 😉 Personally, I cover up in public when I BF bc I feel my boobs are for my hubby’s and my kids eyes only lol but that’s just me.
    – I saw how strong a response you received to the post about not leaving Lexi with anyone for you and hubby to go on date nights. I am sure you are looking forward to those when the time is right for you to leave Lexi for a bit. And though you will probably spend the whole time talking about her and wishing she was with you, you might look back and say, man what a nice time to reflect and be with adults only. I’m lucky that my mom is close by as she is the only person I trust with my kids. I have gone on oe girls night and one date night since Dylan was born and those were great, well deserved nights. Mind you, I was only away for a couple of hours, but it was delightful. I also hope Lexi starts giving you a bit more sleep time. I didn’t think Dylan would let me sleep for a few consecutive hours until at least 6 months, but for the past 2 weeks, he has gone down at 10-11ish and wakes up for a feed at 5-6am. He has been a much tougher and fussier baby that Alexa, but he seems to have made a routine for himself. I thank my lucky stars because Alexa requires a lot of my energy and attention during the day.
    Again, please do not take any offense to my comments. I hardly, rarely ever comment on any blogs that i read, and some people who snap at judgement are ridiculous. You seem to be very confident in your advice and writing, hence my questions.

      I already wrote a bit about your first question (re: outings). Having a baby that SCREAMS in their car seat (mostly when she needs to sleep, otherwise she fusses the whole time) meant that I would rather not make her distressed so much. Really 4 months is not a long time to not go out on outings. We of course would go to the doctor and a few trips when we were feeling brave, but they would always end up with a meltdown and it’s jsut not something I wanted to put my little baby through (and myself to be honest). After we bought a new car seat that she is more comfortable in, and her awake time stretched out to 2-4 hours, it’s been awesome going places.

      Question 2 (re: boobies)- LOL The “hoochie mama” name comes from a specific look that one gets when they wear a bikini that is too small. That’s what Andrew and I call it. So it has nothing to do with big boobs, but everything to do with wearing too small for boobies bikini 😛 As far as “pornstar boobies”, don’t take everything so literally. There’s nothing wrong with pornstars or their boobs, but to a girl who’s had a small B all her life, even a large C cup makes me look/feel like I have fake boobs. I don’t think there’s anything demeaning about it. Porn star boobies look great (when they don’t go overboard)

      Hope it clear it up 😛
